Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
