Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs About Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United just seven months after instigating insulting chants directed at their manager, Wilder.
This experienced forward, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year time at Elland Road concluded by mutual consent this past summer.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party in April. Now, the former England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends and Looking Ahead
All appears to have been put behind them with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to revive his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Chris Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and respected him calling me.
“We spent a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke too and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that is an integral part of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Latest Career Struggles
Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
