Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future after a further convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell like this with performances so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to help the side return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
