It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The top summits have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the team that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are what's still available for a squad that has accomplished all there is.

It needed as late as Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, reclaiming their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, in truth, a tribute to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batters to maintain a record if never given the possibility.

Ultimately, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to deliver her most recent brilliance.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was named player of the tournament. She ensured her country would not fall short again.

Whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind the pressure of a final. Others can counter with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 occurred when she led the batting statistics, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"For those following me in practice sessions, it was a challenging time because I feel like I lacked timing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and from that point the batsman was on her way.

"The possibility to take the field and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 pitches - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, hitting 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was out the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I'm happy we have the confidence to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we know we can achieve it."

Those words will be the ultimate thing competing nations at this tournament need to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will win from any position has grown stronger - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one stage.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a match against old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy was absent due to torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have delayed thoughts of retirement, this championship is likely to be her concluding event as leader in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
