The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Developer to Boost Struggling Hero Shooter Ambitious Title
The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Feedback
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.
The president noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement echoes a comparable action taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire text from the president's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was informative. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had refinements needed. It revealed the need for a more distinct identity.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the feedback to consideration and reimagined the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s positioned to fulfill its potential to our fans.
The belief in Project ETHOS grows every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. After a period of talks, Ben officially joins us on next week.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in welcoming him in the coming days. We are all eager to persist witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to ahead.
David
