The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, according to the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating for some time, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the network announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
