The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
