Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Labels Vicario Booers 'Not True Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be true Tottenham supporters" by manager Frank.
Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their tenth top-flight at home loss of 2025.
But the primary talking point was the visitors' second score when the keeper lost possession well outside his box.
He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the sideline.
However, rather than booting it out of play, the Italy international turned and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.
Moments later when the ball went to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham fans booed him.
The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at the final whistle.
One of those booing episodes truly irritated the manager.
"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly booed the situation and jeered after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"[They] cannot be real Spurs fans that act that way. Alright jeering following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are with one another moving ahead."
Tete had given Fulham a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.
Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the next goal was "totally avoidable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' disappointment," Hart added. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a real leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"He was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."
'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'
Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match
Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.
He stated after the game that he had to take the feedback.
"That goal was a mistake of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.
"My aim was to kick the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult mountain to climb."
He said being booed "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be influenced by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It is on us to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in calmness and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it is tough to take."
'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Line'
Despite the keeper's error, it was not an easy score for Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally also came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "somewhat surprised" that he still had an empty net to aim for.
Ten moments elapsed between Vicario coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments after the kick.
"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson said.
"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the goal, my interest sparked somewhat.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which allowed me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to make the correct contact and get it on target. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it came off my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'
Jeering While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank
Although Vicario's error led headlines, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.
This was their 10th at home loss of 2025 in the league, a joint team record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home fixtures against the manager's old side the Bees and title holders the Reds to play before the end of the year.
Only one of those victories have occurred since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"When you're behind 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to climb," said Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to go against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered another match. Each fixture has a unique story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was significantly improved and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."
Tottenham have been defeated in four straight at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging 9.5 shots and 3.2 shots on target per match in the Premier League – their poorest averages on file in a one season (dating back to 2003-04).
Ex- Fulham midfielder Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the stick," the pundit said. "He has taken a prestigious role at a major football club with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.
"The performances at their stadium have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
